I respect the sentiment, of course, but man, what a crime against incentives to argue that you should send people things because they live in areas suffering Malthusian catastrophes. Certainly, free immigration is politically intractable, but it's such an offensive dismissal of human potential to pay people to breed and starve rather than allow them to work.

Tangentially, I think it's funny that both World Vision and Heifer International appear to treat their catalogs as primarily marketing copy: the first page explains that "Each item is representative of the gift category in which it appears and donations will be used to provide assistance where it is needed most within that category or to address a similar need."
